People & Community

Nabors is dedicated to giving back to the community in meaningful ways. We are led by the passions of our employees, and our resources enable us to encourage and support our staff in community involvement.

Komen Race for the Cure®

Nabors is an ardent supporter of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, which raises funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer and honors those who have battled the disease. In 2012, Nabors became a Silver sponsor with our $20,000 donation to the Komen Race for the Cure®. A $5,000 contribution toward survivor party flowers has also been made each year since 2008. In 2010, Brenda Pattillo, Manager of Executive Services at Nabors, had the honor of co-chairing the Houston Race with her sisters Sandra and Molly, who is a breast cancer survivor.

Mentor Programs

At Nabors, we have a passion for educating the next generation of leaders. Since 2008, Nabors has partnered with Aldine Independent School District to promote and assist student achievement. We participate in the VISA (Volunteers in the Schools of Aldine), the Spring Branch ISD SpringBoard Mentor Program, SNAPP (Students who Need A Pat and a Push) programs, and we provide schools with donations that allow them to continue many educational activities, programs and events within the district.

Stollery Children’s Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta

As part of our commitment to aiding our communities, Nabors sponsors a team in the Stollery Children’s Hospital Annual Step-Up-To-The-Plate-Slo-Pitch Charity Tournament. Not only did the Nabors team win the 2012 tournament, but we have also been the top fundraiser for this event since 2008, bringing in more than $45,000.

In 2012, Tyler Tichkowsky, a Field Safety Coordinator at Nabors, challenged several rig crews to make a difference for the Children’s Hospital. The rigs exceeded all expectations, raising a total of $3,840. Rig C0102 brought in more than $2,200, Rig C0049 followed with $1,065, and Rig 0059 made a generous contribution of $565. The tournament and fundraising have been a great success, and we are grateful to our staff members for supporting this cause.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Since 2005, Nabors has supported the fight against multiple sclerosis by participating in the MS 150, a two-day, 180-mile fundraising cycling ride from Houston to Austin, organized by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Lone Star Chapter. It’s the largest event of its kind in North America. Nineteen employees rode as part of Team Nabors in 2012 which raised more than $18,000 to help fight the devastating effects of MS. The generosity of our employees made all the difference. Nabors staff members Brian Ellis, Victoria Ramos, Daniel Otto and Jon Eric Garcia each raised more than $1,000, and Siggi Meissner, President of Nabors’ International drilling division, raised nearly $7,000.

Wounded War Heroes

In support of wounded veterans, Nabors sponsored the third annual 2012 Wounded War Heroes Fishing Rodeo in Buras, Louisiana. Nabors held a voluntary contest to determine which employees would enjoy a day of fishing and visiting with local war veterans. The crews of Rig N85 and N87 were evaluated on their performance, safety record and attitude. James Hooks, a five-year employee of Nabors, and Fredrick Hartzog, a six-year employee, were selected for their outstanding leadership to represent the Nabors family as part of this event for a good cause.

Edmonton Oilfield Technical Society, Edmonton, Alberta

The Edmonton OTS is a nonprofit museum displaying drilling-related equipment that dates back to the cable tool rigs. As one of the longest operating drilling contractors, Nabors was able to donate a complete drilling rig, a valuable addition to the museum’s collection. Rig C0010 is now part of a collection that spans more than 130 years of Canadian oil history.

United Way

Nabors began its support of United Way more than 35 years ago. In addition to supporting loaned account manager sponsorships and events, Nabors makes our largest donation through the annual pledge campaign. For several weeks each year, Nabors collects pledges from employees and gives them the chance to choose a United Way program to support. Nabors employees have supported a multitude of organizations, including local Food Banks, the American Cancer Society and The Children’s Lunchbox, which feeds more than 625 Alaska-area youths. Through the generosity of our employees, Nabors has donated and pledged an average of $67,500 annually for the past six years.

Dare to Care, Anchorage, Alaska

Nabors has supported Dare to Care since its inception in 2007. The organization identifies students who go hungry in the Anchorage Independent School District and provides the school with funds for food accounts to be set up in the names of those students, replenishing them as needed. Students are selected based on their chronic hunger, lack of a bag lunch or their inability to charge a meal due to an existing excessive charge balance.

Lost Lake Run, Inc., Anchorage, Alaska

Nabors employees support those challenged with cystic fibrosis by competing as a single team in the Lost Lake Run. Each year, we donate the entry fee and compete in this 15.75-mile race along a U.S. Forest Service trail through Lost Lake in Chugach National Forest. In 2007, the Nabors team was the proud first place finisher.

Additional Causes

Nabors Industries cares deeply about children’s health and wellness. That’s why we support causes like Junior Achievement, the Roland Michener School Breakfast Program, the Kids with Cancer Society, UNICEF Canada and the Ronald McDonald House.

In fact, health at all ages is a passion of ours at Nabors. We also sponsor the Arthritis Society, the Cross Cancer Institute, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Schizophrenia Resource Center.

Education is another priority with the Nabors family; we promote education in general and in the field of oil and gas. We sponsor the H.J. Cody School Shop Safety Award, Holy Family Elementary School graduation and the Edmonton Oilfield Technical Society.

Additionally, Eugene M. Isenberg, the Chairman Emeritus of Nabors, volunteered to donate the after-tax proceeds of his salary when he was previously CEO to benefit the educational pursuits of Nabors’ employees and their immediate family members among others. The Isenberg Education Fund helps provide Nabors’ employees and their immediate family members an opportunity to learn, grow and become professionals in their chosen careers.

This is just a snapshot of the ways Nabors is getting involved with our community. The organizations and causes are as varied as our employees because each of them brings their own passions to the company.
